In the rooms of the Japanisches Palais, the films are presented alongside objects that were created in the featured workshops or are associated with them. As allusive references to the respective crafts, these exhibits can be touched and handled, encouraging visitors to experience new materials and come into physical contact with these special craft objects. To accommodate the holistic concept, in which light, sound and aroma stimulation is varied throughout the day to support the circadian rhythm, a design was implemented to play an active role in targeted prompts and removing external distractors. All elements deemed structurally unnecessary were removed to create two main axes that open up the view over the entire length of the building - from south to north and from west to east, crossing in the reception area. At either end of the central axis, a round matte stainless-steel panel with a diameter of 1.6 meters was installed to reflect light within the space. We work with clients to capture the brand’s heritage, promises, personality, and its ambition and try to offer them a closer understanding of the scent creation process and create a scent profile or identity which matches their desired atmosphere. When we started to work with professionals from other fields, such as creatives from interior, lighting, or sound design, it helped us realise how scent can play a leading role to connect, support, and amplify other senses within a holistic spatial or scenographic concept. Based on these experiences we have developed our own olfactory taxonomy, which is very synaesthetic and strongly connected to other sensory impressions. This system allows us to classify fragrances in a rather functional way and to include all senses in the process of creation and communication with other design fields. Hier, im Obergeschoss eines eher unscheinbaren Wohnhauses, kreiert sie mit ihrem Geschäfts- und Lebenspartner Manuel Kuschnig individuelle Raumdüfte für Luxushotels und Boutiquen weltweit. Der Duft als ultimatives Stilmittel: Indem der Geruchssinn angesprochen wird, soll sich eine Marke den letzten Schliff geben und dadurch alle Sinne seiner Kunden ansprechen, statt sich nur auf Optik, Akustik und Haptik zu verlassen.
